BIO

Myriam García Fidalgo is a cellist specialised in contemporary music. Founding member of Schallfeld Ensemble, she also performs with groups including Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Phace, NAMES, Ensemble Chromoson and Vertixe Sonora. After finishing her studies in the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca (Spain) she moved to Austria. She studied with Andreas Pözlberger in the Anton Bruckner University Linz, where she obtained the Master of Arts with honors. Later, she studied the Master “Performance Practice in Contemporary Music” at the University of Graz under the guidance of Klangforum Wien. She received a special prize from the university based on outstanding performance during her studies.  

She has performed in Festivals such as Wien Modern, Wiener Festwochen, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Darmstadt Festival, Musikprotokoll Graz, Klangspuren Schwaz, Romaeuropa, Shangai Spring Festival, Daegu Festival for Contemporary Music (South Korea), Afekt (Estland), Biennale Zagreb, Impuls Graz, Fast- Forward Wien, Escena Contemporánea Madrid, Signale Graz or Ensems Festival (Valencia). As a solist, she has performed in the pieces “Précarité” (Frederik Neyrinck), Berge. Träume” (Klaus Lang),“Harold in Italien” (C. Eftimiou) and “Eros” (Luis de Pablo). She has recorded music by Hannes Kerschbaumer, Mark Barden, Christian Mason, Anqi Liu and Sergey Kim for Paladino Media and col legno.

As a guest artist together with Schallfeld Ensemble, she has presented ensemble reading sessions and masterclasses at Stanford University, Harvard University, UC San Diego, Antwerp University, Milan Conservatory and impuls Festival. She has been awarded with the “Startstipendium” from the Austrian Ministry for Arts and Culture.
